Words are powerful and words can hurt, especially when delivered with vitriolic anger. Ben is a lawyer, married to Maddy, father to three children, he has a temper and he’s verbally abusive to his family. Maddy is a social worker who ironically helps women navigate abusive relationships, while taking Xanax and Ambien to survive her home life. Fourteen-year old Emma, nine-year old Gracie and seven-year old Caleb are Maddy and Ben’s children and they are afraid of their daddy when he gets mad. Maddy’s parents, best friends, co-workers and everyone else knows Ben is out of control, but that Maddy does nothing about it.

Then the unspeakable happens. Ben gets angry and loses control while driving in the rain with Maddy and they end up in a horrible accident. Maddy’s thrown from the car ending up in a coma. It throws the already fragile family into a critical state, which there are no easy answers.

What I appreciate about Randy Susan Meyers novels are the narratives are about real life issues, real people, real struggles and heart-ache. The characters are sometimes unlikable but always authentic. You know these people, they live in your neighborhood, they’re your relatives.

ACCIDENTS of MARRIAGE is about family, faith and forgiveness. What I also love about Randy Susan Meyers novels? They don’t end all packaged with lovely bows on top. That’s not real life. Again, there are no easy answers.
