In Susan Lewis’s new novel, HOME TRUTHS (WilliamMorrow), a mother’s worst nightmare becomes a reality…

Angie Watts once had what seemed like an idyllic life: a house in a small town in the English countryside with her beloved husband Steve and their three adored children. She never could have predicted how her life would one day turn out.

When her oldest son, Liam, grows from a sweet-natured boy to a troubled teen, Angie’s world begins to crumble. Expelled from school and disappearing from home for days on end, Liam falls in with a notorious local gang. After arriving home one day to find their 5-year-old son with a syringe Liam has left lying around, Steve makes a rash decision that will have lasting repercussions on their family.

Two years later, Steve is gone, Liam is missing, and with money running out, Angie and her other two children are on the brink of eviction. Then Angie is called into the police station and informed that there’s been a murder—and Liam is a suspect. As Angie’s desperation to save her family leads her to take drastic measures, her daughter secretly devises her own plan to save the family…which could put everyone in danger.

Alternating between Angie’s blissful life as a young mother and her present-day nightmare, Home Truths is a searing exploration of the lengths one mother will go to survive and protect her children.

I hadn’t read Susan Lewis before but I found myself enjoying HOME TRUTHS immensely. She has a gentle way of writing about families, that not only is lyrical, but you feel the emotional tension. I look forward to looking up some of her backlist.

  2. I need this book in my life!!! AH! It sounds so good, AND I am a huge Susan Lewis fan. OK, so one of the most interesting books about families… I think I have a three way tie. I can’t help it. Up From the Blue by Susan Henderson, Sea Creatures by Susanna Daniel, and Televenge by Pamela King Cable. All three books hit me hard in different ways and those are always in my top ten lists of books I recommend. Thank you for being on this tour! Sara @ TLC Book Tours

    1. Never Have I Ever was an outstanding suspense filled thriller read for me when one woman bent on deranged revenge is determined to destroy another mother’s life and family. Scared out of her wits, the mother goes to great depths to save her family.

  3. I really love bed the history and craziness of Cape May, Lies was a good psychological thriller involving a small family. Saving Meghan was another good one. Also, any of the Silver Springs small town families are so enjoyable.

  4. Pride and Prejudice. While it’s a study of manners and a romance, it also delves into at least five families and their strengths and weaknesses: the Bennets, of course, the Darcys, the Bingleys, the Lucases, and the de Bourghs. It’s remarkable how much information Jane Austen packed into that book concerning the various families she created. You don’t realize it while you read, but if you sit back and think on it, we get to know so much about all of these families. Thank you for the chance.

  5. The most recent one that really impacted me was If Only I Could Tell You by Hannah Beckerman. It really shows how secrets kept for too long can negatively impact family relationships, how easily misunderstandings lead to unjustified anger, and how difficult it is to forgive based on incorrect beliefs about a loved one’s actions.
