DON’T YOU CRY by Mary Kubica & Giveaway

Bestselling queen-of-suspense, Mary Kubica’s latest novel, DON’T YOU CRY (MIRA) has been released and it’s part of BookSpark’s #SRC2016 #BestSummerEver ! I got to meet the psychological-thriller author this past May at BookExpo and I was thrilled. Don’t plan on doing anything else until you’ve turned to the last page!

Twenty-three-year-old Quinn Collins, wakes up one morning, to find her roommate’s alarm clock buzzing non-stop, the bedroom window open letting in the cold Chicago fall air, and an empty not slept in bed. First thought: This is so not: Esther Vaughan. And then she finds a note on Esther’s desk and reads it.

“And that’s when it hits me: Maybe Saint Esther isn’t such a saint, after all.”

Why did Esther leave her phone behind? When it rings, Quinn is shocked to learn Esther has changed her name, placed an ad for a roommate and asked the super to change the locks. Following so far? Good.

Eighteen-year-old, Alex Gallo, has stayed behind, working as a dishwasher in a small Michigan harbor town, an hour outside Chicago, rather than follow his friends off to college. One day a beautiful woman walks into his restaurant, orders a cup of coffee and introduces some mystery to his otherwise boring life. Later he follows her to the psychiatrist’s office and the playground, where she proceeds to take her clothes off and walk into the ice-cold lake. She swims a few strokes and then gets out. He is unable to speak as she walks past him.

DON’T YOU CRY is told from two alternating points of view. There are times I was reading wondering who had anything to do with anything else. There were other moments in the narrative when I contemplated whether or not a character was crazy or flat-out in the wrong book. Just when I thought I was starting to figure out some of the plot, the story took a turn and I was at zero. Don’t expect to guess how everything comes together until the very end. A Mary Kubica novel is worth the frustration because the payoff is so good!

Mary’s in top form with her third novel, DON’T YOU CRY. The pace is fast and the writing sharp and tight. Mary’s working on her fourth novel, yet untitled. It comes out the summer 2017.
