“Deliciously creepy.” That’s what I think about Mary Kupica’s new novel, THE OTHER MRS. (ParkRowBooks) and I’m not alone. It seems to be everyone’s thought about Kupica’s book which is already a bestseller! It’s one of the few books I’ve read and didn’t figure out the twist until the end.
Sadie and Will Faust move from their Chicago home to a remote island off the coast of Maine after Will’s sister leaves her mansion to him after committing suicide. They find the timing perfect since Will has been in an affair which almost destroyed their marriage. But not only does the family inherit a really creepy mansion, Will’s niece, Imogen with her crystal blue eyes outlined in black liner, is what you picture a teen to look like in a horror film.
After their arrival, the first murder ever occurs on the island. Who did it? Soon the new family is under suspicion. With every day that passes while the killer is on the loose, Sadie is more suspicious and paranoid about life on the island.
What I love most about Mary’s novels is her ability to get into the heads of the characters, and in THE OTHER MRS. really create layers of deception among the family’s many secrets. THE OTHER MRS., is a thriller that’s unpredictable and has you wondering just what the hell is going on until the very end. Expect to be shocked. I certainly was.
