HOLLY BANKS FULL OF ANGST by Julie Valerie – SPOTLIGHT & GIVEAWAY

Have you ever connected with a character so much, you thought this book had to be written around me? That’s what happened while reading debut author, Julie Valerie’s novel, HOLLY BANKS FULL OF ANGST (LakeUnion). I thought I was one of the only women who can’t catch a break? I mean really, making a good first impression is no longer possible for me. I either act weird, nervous, some might say haughty, please! Holly Banks makes me realize there’s lots of us gals just trying to be perfect, when perfection doesn’t exist and good first impressions are hit or miss.

Holly Banks could not have made a worse first impression on the seemingly perfect moms in her new affluent community, the Village of Primm. Turns out wearing pink piggy pajama bottoms while dropping off her kindergartener late to the first day of school wasn’t her best look.

Not to mention Holly’s worried her husband may be having an affair, she can’t get her daughter to stop sucking her thumb, her hard-won film degree is collecting dust, and to top it all off, the power-hungry PTA president clearly has it in for her…

To make matters even worse, Holly’s natural eye for drama lands her smack-dab in the middle of a neighborhood mystery—right as her own crazy mother shows up in Primm “to help.” Through it all, Holly begins to realize her neighbors may be just as flawed as—and even wackier than—she is, leaving her to wonder: Is there such a thing as a perfect mom?

“If I learned anything this week, it’s this: nothing’s permanent; everything changes. And there’s more than one word for happy.” Holly Banks – after surviving her first week in Primm

  1. The best part of parenting is seeing the child develop along the way and enjoying their successes. This book sounds so “real”. I’d love to read it.

  2. I am not a parent myself, but when I’ve watched my in-laws with their 6 girls between them, it seems the best part of parenting must be seeing them grow up to be kind, loving adults.

    1. Six girls! Sounds like my family. I was raised as the middle daughter of three girls. No brothers. 😉 And yes, the best a parent can hope for is to see their children grow up to be kind, loving adults. That’s the absolute best!

    1. I couldn’t agree more! I also enjoy those moments when complete strangers compliment you on your children. It’s always a moment where I exhale and think that maybe . . . just maybe . . . I might be doing something right.

  4. For me the best part of being a parent is watching your child grow up to be an incredible, decent human being and being able to say to yourself if I ever did anything right in life I did my son right!

  5. I don’t have children but I do watch other people’s children and every day when they get off the bus I high-five them and want to be a positive influence in their lives.

  6. My two children are adults now. I look back on those years when they were young, they were the best years of my life and went by too quickly. For young mothers I give you the advice to enjoy every minute because it’s like you blink and they aren’t little anymore.

  7. Knowing that you have a chance to shape a life, that will be your legacy. The most important project of your life from start to finish. I raised 2 young men by myself & couldn’t be more proud of my hard work. It was worth all the sacrifice & the cherished memories will live with me forever.

    1. My daughters are grown with kids of their own. My oldest daughter and I share a house and I get to help her raise her son(soon to be sons 😊). My grandson started kindergarten this school year and I am thankful to have been apart of his special first day and I am normally the one to get him off the bus in the afternoon and get that special time with him to hear about his day and to work on his homework.
