THINGS YOU SAVE IN A FIRE by Katherine Center & Giveaway

From the New York Times bestselling author of How to Walk Away, Katherine Center comes a stunning new novel. THINGS YOU SAVE IN A FIRE(St.MartinsPress) is about family, hope, and learning to love against all odds.

Cassie Hanwell was born for emergencies. As one of the only female firefighters in her Texas firehouse, she’s seen her fair share of them, and she’s excellent at dealing with other people’s tragedies. But when her estranged and ailing mother asks her to uproot her life and move to Boston, it’s an emergency of a kind Cassie never anticipated.

The tough, old-school Boston firehouse is as different from Cassie’s old job as it could possibly be. Hazing, a lack of funding, and poor facilities mean that the firemen aren’t exactly thrilled to have a “lady” on the crew, even one as competent and smart as Cassie. Except for the handsome rookie, who doesn’t seem to mind having Cassie around. But she can’t think about that. Because she doesn’t fall in love. And because of the advice her old captain gave her: don’t date firefighters. Cassie can feel her resolve slipping…but will she jeopardize her place in a career where she’s worked so hard to be taken seriously?

I really enjoyed THINGS YOU SAVE IN A FIRE. It’s definitely one of my favorite novels so far this year. Cassie is a really well-developed character; I can relate to her ups and downs. Josh is the dreamiest guy ever! Ladies will all wish they had a Josh in their lives. Maybe you’re lucky, and do

NEW YORK TIMESBestselling Author Katherine Center wrote her first novel in the sixth grade (fan fiction about Duran Duran) and got hooked. From then on, she was doomed to want to be a writer—obsessively working on poems, essays, and stories, as well as memorizing lyrics, keeping countless journals, and reading constantly.

She won a creative writing scholarship in high school, and then went on to major in creative writing at Vassar College, where she won the Vassar College Fiction Prize. At 22, she won a fellowship to the University of Houston’s Creative Writing Program and moved home to Texas with plans to become Jane Austen ASAP.

Didn’t happen quite that way. Of course. Instead, she began a decade of struggling, agonizing, and questioning the meaning of life before finally finding a fairy-godmother-like agent and getting a dream-come-true book deal for her debut novel, The Bright Side of Disaster.

A total happy ending. And also, just the beginning.

Thanks to St. Martin’s Press and Katherine Carter Communications, we have one copy to giveaway. Just tell us the one thing you’d save if you were ever in a fire. God hopes that never happens. We’ll announce a winner soon. Good luck.

GIVEAWAY: USA only please.

  1. A fire is my worst nightmare. I would want to save everything and aside from family and animals, I’d have to be in the situation. In other words, I have no idea.

  2. If Katherine Center writes it, I have to read it, such beautiful stories. I would save our almost 17-year old Pug Pep – he can’t walk and can’t see very well so he would be more #1 priority!

  3. I would save my family, my pets and my pictures. It would devastate me because I form emotional attachments to objects.

  4. Our house actually burned down in 1997 and we lost my sons Rottweiler. I would definitely save our pets and pictures.
