ONLY EVER HER by Marybeth Mayhew Whalen & Giveaway

GIVEAWAY CLOSED

It was to be the perfect wedding—until the bride disappeared.

In Marybeth Mayhew Whalen’s new novel, ONLY EVER HER (LakeUnionPublishing), Annie Taft’s wedding is four days away, and it will be one of the grandest anyone can remember in her small South Carolina town. Preparations are in order. Friends and family are gathering in anticipation. Everything is going according to plan. Except that Annie herself has vanished. Did she have second thoughts?

Or has something much worse happened to the bride-to-be?

As the days pass, the list of suspects in her disappearance grows. Could it be the recently released man a young Annie misidentified as her mother’s killer? Could it be someone even closer to her?

While her loved ones frantically try to track her down, they’re forced to grapple with their own secrets—secrets with the power to reframe entire relationships, leaving each to wonder how well they really knew Annie and how well they know themselves.

I liked the premise of ONLY EVER HER, but I felt like the book couldn’t decide what it was. It can be placed in several categories, but I felt it didn’t have a focus. I love MMW’s novels. I guess I was kind of let down by this one.

  1. I hate being the center of attention, that’s the only reason I didn’t like being a bride. I’d love to win and read this book!

  2. I was a 20 yo bride marrying my 19 yo fiancé. I’d never want my children to get married that young but we’ll be celebrating our 43rd anniversary in October. There were some tough years for sure, but as the years go by, our love and respect for each other keeps increasing.

  3. My first wedding was a simple ceremony at someone’s house. I was a very shy person so we had a simple but pretty ceremony.

  4. I thought everything was right when I married the first time; same church, lived in the same area, in our 20’s, he was 3 years older than me….the things you considered 60 years ago. After 10 years and a baby, he decided he wanted out. If it wasn’t for the baby, I’d say that I never should have gone into this marriage. The red flags were waving before we got married and I was too forgiving.

  5. I’ve never had a wedding. I eloped when I was 18. I remarried in 2000. We went to the courthouse and the county judge married us. My son and niece were the only ones present.

  6. The most recent, and most special wedding I attended was my daughter’s, and it was beautiful — the couple, the service and the venue, which was in the mountains, in Rifle, Colorado.

  8. I just attended a wedding in March 2019 for a college friend’s daughter. It was so fun to see friends I have not seen in twenty years and catch up. Weddings are always a blessing.

  9. When being a bride, I was only nervous during the ceremony when all the eyes are on you. You feel utterly appreciated among your loved ones. It was an unforgettable day.

  11. Got an invite to our Godkids Dad 3rd wedding. Not that happy to start with, but really felt out of place. No mention on invite special dress. get there ad the groom wearing blue jeans/shirt and the Bride and her attentants jean skirts/blouse. Talk about being overdressed.

  12. I was a bride in 1965, no big wedding just a ceremony at the parsonage! Just family there, sure saved money, but I sure was happy! I married a wonderful man who treated me like a queen for 36 years before his death!

  14. My so was married 2 years ago in Tahiti – just the 2 of them – while I stayed home taking care of my grand Dogs! Upon their return, they were married in their home with relatives present – wedding dress for my beautiful daughter-in-law, followed by a reception for family and friends in local winery!

  16. We were married May 21, 1966. He was 19 and I was 19 the next week. A big wedding for the time in my church with lots of guests. Then no one had sit down dinners. We had great reception at my parents’s home after wedding.
