GIVEAWAY CLOSED
THE LIAR’S ROOM (Berkley) takes place over the course of one therapy session, in which neither patient nor therapist are who they claim to be. Two liars. One room. No way out.
Susanna Fenton has a secret. Fourteen years ago she left her identity behind, reinventing herself as a therapist and starting a new life. It was the only way to keep her daughter safe. But when a young man, Adam Geraghty, walks into her office, claiming he needs Susanna’s help but asking unsettling questions, she begins to fear that her secret has been discovered.
Who is Adam, really? What does he intend to do to Susanna? And what has he done to her daughter?”
I found the premise for THE LIAR’S ROOM brilliant, but I must admit I started getting a bit claustrophobic in the office. Both Susanna and Adam’s characters dialogue flows, which was essential for a book where the two characters basically talk. Put THE LIAR’S ROOM in your TBR list of thrillers. It won’t disappoint.
SIMON LELIC’S OWN WORDS:
I was born in Brighton in 1976 and, after a decade or so living in London and trying to convince myself that the tube was fine, really, because it gave me a chance to read, my wife and I moved back to Brighton with our three young children. That Barnaby, Joseph and Anja’s grandparents happened to live close enough by to be able to offer their babysitting services was, of course, entirely coincidental.
As well as writing, I run an import/export business. I say this, when people ask, with a wink but I fool no one: I am more Del Trotter than Howard Marks. My hobbies (when I have time for them) include reading (for which I make time, because I can just about get away with claiming this is also work), golf, tennis, snowboarding and karate. My weekends belong to my family (or so my wife tells me), as does my heart.
I studied history at the University of Exeter. After graduating I was qualified, I discovered . . . to do an MA. After that I figured I had better learn something useful, so took a post-grad course in journalism. I know, I know: so much for learning something useful. After working freelance and then in business-to-business publishing, I now write novels. Not useful either, necessarily, but fun and, in its own way, important.
In half a page, then, that’s me. My wife wanted me to add that I am not as mean as I look in my author pic. That was the publisher’s doing: they wanted austere. But now I’ve gone and ruined it.
Thanks to Berkley Publishing, we have one copy of THE LIAR’S ROOM to giveaway. Just tell us your experience with liars. We’ve all encountered at least one. We’ll announce a winner soon. Good luck.
GIVEAWAY: USA only please.
Intriguing!

I have encountered liar at work. I work for the district court. I think I have heard every excuse possible for not being able to attend court. I’m pretty sure some of the excuses aren’t true. This sounds like a very suspenseful novel.

People lie everyday to one degree or another. It’s learning to recognize the worst and choose your battles

I like people to tell the truth without being hurtful! I think most of us have told little white lies. One lie can lead to another which could be dangerous!

The problem with lying is once you caught a person lying its hard to trust them ever again.

It is disappointing to know that you have been lied to especially when you trusted that person. It is hurtful and upsetting to learn that this friend was really a foe.

Aaah, liars. Frustrating when you know they are lying but you didn’t see whatever happened.

Sounds great! Lies, everywhere! Its sad, but we are all guilty of it, yes I’m fine, prime example. Yes, that looks good, no I’m not drunk. The little lies, blah, those big earth shattering ones, the hurt, mistrust, you start to lose faith and hope you realize we are only humans.

I have a sister that lies so much, and about any littke thing that i think she belives her own lies, and could actually pass a lie detector test. Some how i can always just read her. And never put much faith into what she says.
I like to be as truthful as i can. But if at all possible i will do everything i can to avoid it of its going to hurt someone. I try to skirt around it as best i can

Oh the liars are everywhere. I’m sure lying is the norm, not the exception anymore. Unfortunately.
I am not a liar.

Liars are always omnipresent. The worst are when they happen to be friends.

I worked with a liar. He was a nice guy, but everyone knew not to believe anything he said because his stories always changed. Book sounds like a great read.

There are white lies so as not to hurt someone you love and then there are the cruel lies to manipulate and gaslight someone. It is inevitable if you lie too much you get caught up in your lies, unless of course you are a sociopath. Which are the good psychological thrillers, but ONLY in books I like to read. not someone I want to meet in person! This book has been on my radar, thanks for a chance!

I had a coworker who would talk about his wife and children – eventually discovered it was all a lie – no wife – no children. None of us could figure out why.

I would say every one of us, at some point, has lied for whatsoever reason(s), including me. I abhor lies and liars except reasonable white lies.. “The Liar’s Room” seems a suspenseful thriller because of all the secrets and lies!

I used to work with a liar. It was hard to tell how much was actual truth, how much was embellished, and/or if any of it was true. She was a nice person and would give you the shirt off her back, but……

I really despise liars. I’ve encountered them throughout my life; coworkers, friends, even family members. I’ve known people who lie for no real reason, they just lie. Not to hide something or protect themselves or even to hurt someone else. I don’t understand the inclination. It seems to me it is much easier and less complicated to be truthful.

I think everyone tells a little white lie now and then. The problem is with the consistent liars who lie so much they believe their own lies.

Small lies don’t bother me much because I’ve told a few myself but it’s the habitual liars and the big hurtful lies that get under my skin.
