HOW FAR SHE’S COME by Holly Brown & GIVEAWAY

“…no matter how far you think you’ve come, how far you think women have come, there’s still a long way to go.” Holly Brown

Bestselling author, Holly Brown taps into the #MeToo movement in her new novel, HOW FAR SHE’S COME (WilliamMorrow). She also utilizes President Donald Trump’s rise to the highest office in the land and his (on-tape!) bragging about groping women. That raised some disturbing questions about how far women still have to go to achieve not just equality but safety.

Holly Brown places HOW FAR SHE’S COME at INN (IndependentNewsNetwork) to tell the story of 24-year old, Cheyenne Florian, who has just received her dream job offer. On the strength of a few vlogs and nude photographs, she’s recruited to be the new correspondent on the “independent thinking network.”

With the slogan “Because independent thinking is the only way out,” INN has branded itself as innovative. Yet once Cheyenne joins the INN team, she finds age-old dynamics in play. Some of the female staff resent her meteoric rise, while a number of the men are only too happy to welcome her.

Alternating between Cheyenne’s current time narrative and the diary of former news anchor, Elyse Rohrbach ten years prior, she’s forced to learn the lesson that nothing is more threatening than a woman who doesn’t yet know her own power…

I enjoyed HOW FAR SHE’S COME, particularly because I worked in television news for nearly thirty-years. I started as an intern at CNN in NYC shortly after the cable news network started. I recognized several parallels to both women and own my career journey. It’s a tough business. Everyone thinks they know everything and they’re on the hunt to catch someone mess up, so they can exploit it. I was fortunate to work most of my career in Miami at a station where it didn’t matter if you were a man or a woman – just get the job done or you’re fired. But I can appreciate and I’m hopeful for the change of attitudes in newsrooms, as well as all workplaces.

“It’s not brain surgery. It’s not nuclear physics. It’s television. It’s only television.” Linda Ellerbee (old school)

Holly Brown

Holly Brown is (in no particular order): a novelist, wife, mother, marriage and family therapist, poker enthusiast, resident of the San Francisco Bay Area, lover of some incredibly shameful reality TV, devotee of NPR (she owes a debt of gratitude for inspiring more than one novel), and a believer that people should always be willing to make mistakes and always be the first to apologize for them.

As a writer, she tends to be inspired by contemporary events and phenomena. That’s where her background in human dynamics comes into play, and where the fun begins.
