BookSparks 2017 Summer Reading Challenge continues with bestselling crime novelist, Mary Kubica and her thrilling new novel, EVERY LAST LIE (ParkRowBooks).
“The bad man, Daddy. The bad man is after us.”
Clara Solberg is waiting at home with her 4-day old infant, Felix in her arms for her husband to bring their daughter, Maisie from ballet and Chinese food for dinner. Instead, there’s a knock at the front door and an officious man in a police uniform tells Carla there has been an accident.
Nick Solberg had apparently been speeding when unable to make a turn he wrapped his car around a tree, dying instantly. Miraculously, Maisie escapes with a scratch, but she’s now haunted by nightmares about a man chasing her and her father in a black car. Clara can’t accept it was a simple accident and coupled with Maisie’s night terrors suspects there’s more to the accident. Despite police reports saying otherwise, Carla decides she has to investigate what really happened. She proceeds to dig into Nick’s personal and professional files, family bank accounts and starts finding secrets and contradictions about the man Clara thought she knew. Secrets and contradictions that she may wish she hadn’t discovered.
The story alternates between Nick before the accident and Clara after. The narrative starts building introducing any number of reasons and people who may have wanted Nick dead. Clara begins to suspect family members, friends and neighbors, never considering Nick had a lead foot. Clara refuses to accept anything but foul play and that reasoning leads her into a labyrinth that she risks being trapped in.
While reading EVERY LAST LIE, you may think you have everything figured it out, but chances are you won’t know the truth until the very end. So I suggest, just enjoying the ride.

What a fantastic giveaway!! I’ve read all her books, but Don’t You Cry was amazing. It had me on the edge of my seat. I loved the complexity of it and it sounds like this one is too. It has that element of creepy, intrigue, and lots of mystery!
