THE WICKED CITY by Beatriz Williams & GIVEAWAY

Best-selling author, Beatriz Williams once again wows readers with her latest novel, A WICKED CITY (William Morrow) It’s a delicious adventure, which includes a love-triangle in swinging New York City during the Jazz Age. A WICKED CITY travels between present and past, including the dangerous years of Prohibition. It focuses on a hunky Prohibition agent, a hot redheaded flapper and a good-looking, Princeton-educated boy from a rich New York City society family.

Ella Gilbert finds out her banker husband is living a secret life, so she flees their fancy SoHo loft for a studio apartment in Greenwich Village. But her new building isn’t quite what it seems. Her hunky new musician neighbor, Hector warns her to stay out of the basement after midnight. Tenants have reported hearing mysterious noises – laughter, clinking glasses, jazz piano and the occasional bloodcurdling scream. She learns the building has been empty for decades, but back in the Roaring Twenties it was home to one of the city’s most popular and notorious speakeasies.

Back in 1924, Geneva “Gin” Kelly, a cheeky, silver-tongued, red-headed flapper with a heart of gold, from the hills of western Maryland, is a regular at this Village hideaway known as the Christopher Club. Caught up in a raid, brazen “Gin” lands in the office of Prohibition enforcement agent, Oliver Anson, who “twists” her into helping him catch her stepfather, Duke Kelly, one of Appalachia’s most notorious bootleggers.

“Gin” finds herself falling for the Fed, even though she has the wealthy college-boy, Billy Marshall on the hook, wanting to marry her. Anything was up for grabs in the twenties, but even “Gin’s” outrageous behavior rocks New York’s Society crowd to its knees, exposing secrets from Park Avenue back to her hometown, in Maryland.

The more Ella learns about the abandoned speakeasy, she finds herself kicking up her heels, just like the brassy, Gin did in the twenties.

Williams’ prose in THE WICKED CITY is exquisite and vividly described. Her characters are multi-dimensional, but flawed, making them the all more intriguing. The plot of THE WICKED CITY is a compelling, fast-paced narrative with lots of twists, turns and suspense that will keep you turning pages until the very end.
