MOONLIGHT OVER PARIS by Jennifer Robson & GIVEAWAY

I agree, but a novel set in the Paris of the 1920s can be the next best thing, especially when its the new book, MOONLIGHT OVER PARIS (WilliamMorrow) written by bestselling author, Jennifer Robson. I simply fell in love with this novel at page one and read non-stop through the very end.

Lady Helena Montagu-Douglas-Parr is born into English Aristocracy, but she’s still a girl with a vulnerable heart, and that heart is shattered, when her fiancé cancels their engagement and she becomes the target of vicious gossip. She then contracts a disease which nearly kills her.

Once recovered, she decides she’s ready to try something completely different, so she contacts her free-spirited Aunt Agnes in Paris. She asks to stay with her for one year and pursue her dream to become an artist, simply as Miss Parr, hoping to hide her status.

She makes friends at art school, finds herself being welcomed into salons where she meets other artists, actors, writers, expats and then Sam Howard, an American journalist working for the Chicago Tribune. He’s completely different from any man she’s ever met. He calls her Ellie and sees into her soul, as no one ever has before. But Sam has his own dark secrets, which he’s hiding. Helena and Sam find themselves in the Paris of the 1920s, at a time when the city is reawakening, after the Great War – in many ways a metaphor of their lives.

I’ve been fortunate to have traveled to Paris twice! Although Ms. Robson’s novel is set in the 1920s, I feel as if I’m there and her descriptions of the city are brilliant. I love walking with the characters along the Seine, dashing in and out of cafe’s, trying to avoid the drizzle, but not quite rain and I could smell the inside of the legendary bookstore, Shakespeare and Company on Rue de la Bucherie.

FYI: MOONLIGHT OVER PARIS is the third in a series, but it stands alone. I haven’t read the others, but I’m going back to read SOMEWHERE IN FRANCE and AFTER THE WAR IS OVER.
