“A whistling woman and a crowing hen always come to some bad end.”

I regularly have novels sent to me that I get to share with you, the readers of Thoughts on This ‘n That Blog and today I’m excited to introduce you to debut author, Kelly Romo and her novel, WHISTLING WOMEN (LAKE UNION PUB.).

It’s a historical fiction about a topic we all can relate to – sisters – confronting family secrets past and present.

http://www.sheknows.com has called it one of 18 Holidays gifts to give this upcoming season. BuzzFeed  calls it a warm and witty read for women!

We believe it’s an enjoyable must read and a perfect gift. This is what it’s about!

Fifteen years ago, life went terribly wrong for Addie Bates in San Diego, and she’s been running from those memories ever since.Sleepy Valley Nudist Colony has provided a safe haven for Addie to hide from the crime she committed. But when the residents pack up to go on exhibit at the 1935 world’s fair in San Diego, Addie returns and must face the terrifying prospect of reuniting with her estranged sister, Wavey.

Addie isn’t the only one interested in a reunion. When her niece, Rumor, discovers she has an aunt, Rumor is determined to bring her family together. But it’s not so easy when the women are forced to confront family secrets, past and present.

WHISTLING WOMEN explores the complex relationships between sisters, the sacrifices required to protect family, and the lasting consequences of a single act.

“Some things need to be broken in order to free what’s inside.

    1. I did a bit of research and “whistling women” refers back to biblical times and then again appears in Irish folklore speaking of “troublesome women.” If you’ve read the novel this should make sense, and be quite fascinating as to how much thought went into choosing a title. If you haven’t, I dare say your curiosity should be peaked.
