READ BOTTOM UP a novel by Neel Shah and Skye Chatham & A GIVEAWAY

Read Bottom Up

READ BOTTOM UP (Dey Publishing) is called “a charming novel about falling in love (or like) in the digital age—the never-before-seen full story.” The novel unfolds with emails and texts passing back and forth in “real time” between Madeleine and Elliot and their BFFs, Emily and David.

What I call READ BOTTOM UP is the novel that makes me feel happy I was born twenty-years before everyone went digital and the majority of people I knew dating, communicated face to face, or on the phone and didn’t rely on this whole digital form of interaction. Yes, I know I sound like an old-fuddy-duddy, which I’m so not, but after killing an hour or so reading READ BOTTOM UP, it’s a quick read, it’s easy to sum up. The novel is in the format of emails and texts. Whatever happened to face to face? I’m happy that I’m still willing and able to talk to people, particularly of the opposite sex, one on one, even when it gets uncomfortable. IMAGINE!

I have friends who try to pull me in to the email and text vortex, but I resist and why? I know the drama I get into when dealing face to face. Reading READ BOTTOM UP makes it apparent communicating on the computer doesn’t help in anyway, it just compounds the normal challenges.

READ BOTTOM UP starts as a clever idea, quickly becomes a gimmick, but as GIRLS star Allison Williams writes, “Never has the dysfunction of my generation’s quest for love been so accurately reproduced as fiction.”

Authors Neel Shah and Skye Chatham have obviously tapped into their generation’s zeitgeist. I wouldn’t be surprised if READ BOTTOM UP is already in development to be a HBO or Showtime series.

  1. I actually met my first boyfriend via the Internet before online dating was a thing. It was through a Seinfeld newsgroup and he could have been anyone of any age living anywhere in the world but he happened to be close to my age, Jewish, and living in the Chicago suburbs. What are the odds?!? We were amicable and e-mailed sporadically for a while but our lives have gone separate ways and we don’t talk anymore. I wish him all the best though.

  2. I’ve met some creepy guys online through texting and email. I haven’t done online dating for awhile because of that reason.

  3. I never took that route of looking for love online. It just felt awkward for me. I was more old fashioned. I met my husband at work and after only dating and knowing each other for 4 months we got married. We celebrated 11 years of marriage earlier this month.

  4. Any group text between me and my family, usually my brothers, sister, my mom and stepdad are quite interesting! And usually very funny!

  5. I am a grandmother and find it amusing when the internet throws guys at me that are “looking for sincere, faithful women” of my age. And then their picture is of someone 17. Okay. Maybe 29. It is funny though. I never had a desire to meet anyone online although several of my friends did, way back when it was all but unheard of. I still think I would feel that way now.

  6. My son met his wife online, and, they’ve been married for 6 years. I grew up in a world without computers and I’m so glad that I did. It definitely is not something I would do to meet a man. I met my husband at a Fraternity party 50 years ago and we’ve been married for 46 years! Thank you for the chance to win this giveaway.

  7. I met my husband in real life…. we never would have met if I tried to find love online… it took close to 5 years of being together to convince him he needed a cell phone! He finally got one but still refuses social media (something I can’t live without lol).

  8. What an interesting concept for a book…looks like something I would enjoy reading. I’m glad I didn’t grow up during this social media age. I enjoy e-mails and FB as ways to keep in contact with family and friends but tend to limit the number of friends I have. That could get out of hand in a hurry, and really, do I really care anything at all about a lot of these people? I did join linked in which I rarely look at and had an old boyfriend contact me to find out if it was really me…it was interesting to see what he ended up doing with his life. We lost contact after university.

  9. I haven’t had any interesting text or email experiences, but I did meet someone in an AOL chat room (back in the 90’s) that I flew cross-country to visit. He and I share a birthday and remain good friends to this day.
